WES Sends Messalonskee Boys Basketball Team Off to States
By: Maggie Solis, Dean of Students, and Melanie Smith, Principal
On the morning of February 28th, the morning of the Class A State Championship Boys Basketball game, the students and staff of Williams Elementary gave the Messo Boys team a start to their day the WES community hopes they will remember forever! We welcomed them by announcing each of them with music playing and cheers for all to hear! Williams thought sharing their favorite “activator” from The Regulated Classroom, rhythm sticks, would be the perfect start to this pep rally. Every student and staff member had their rhythm sticks in hand and clicked them together to the beat of Thunderstruck as it played over the loudspeakers! The energy was contagious!
Mr. Polley, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Solis then set up three awesome rounds of Minute to Win It challenges for students to compete against the high school players – Hot Shot, Quick Hands, and Moving Up! Our students could not be more pumped when their names were spun and chosen on our wheel of names to get the chance to stand up there with these awesome Northern Maine Regional Class A Champions!
Our assembly wrapped up with some well wishes and a Channel 8 News highlight reel of their Northern Maine Regional Class A Championship game. The whole team circulated the gym and exited with hundreds of high 5s from our staff and students!
The Messo Boys Basketball team played their hearts out in the state championship game. We hope they enjoyed all of the special moments that took place throughout their season and that they feel a sense of pride when they reflect back on the night of their state championship game. They are all champions in our eyes! #WeAreRSU18
