Fifth Grade Learning Update
The fifth graders at Williams Elementary have been very busy this month working on a variety of skills from working with fractions and decimals in math to learning about how to use coordinate grids to collect and interpret data. In reading, the fifth graders are focusing on point of view and perspectives as they are reading a variety of short passages – comparing perspectives between passages. They are also reading novels. Students recently finished up a science unit that focused on three of the human body systems (digestive, respiratory, and circulatory) and how they are connected together as well as the important organs of each system and their role. The fifth graders read a variety of nonfiction texts, watched videos, and engaged in hands-on tasks to learn about the systems. Students also did some research and created posters to share information about diseases or syndromes that can affect each body system as well as ways to keep each body system healthy. In writing, students have begun their informative writing unit, which focuses on doing research for a biography of a person that is a leader as a connection to the social studies learning goal. It’s been a busy month and a lot of amazing learning is happening in the fifth grade classrooms at WES! #WeAreRSU18 #WESpride18
