2024 Black Bear Book Awards

The Black Bear Book Awards is a friendly competition at Williams Elementary School where students are introduced to a select amount of books each week from a list of 50 previously selected books chosen by RSU 18’s district librarians. These books range from graphic novels to chapter books to nonfiction biographies that have been published within the last year. When students read a BBBA book, they then fill out an exit slip which Mrs. Field tallies per class. Each paw print is equal to 10 slips submitted, and the goal is to receive 500 slips for books read during the entire campaign. As of March 27th, students have already surpassed that goal and have returned over 700 slips with Mrs. Mayo’s fifth grade class in the resounding lead with 172 slips! Mrs. Field loves encouraging her eager readers and keeps the BBBA board up-to-date with bear paws. Happy reading, Williams Elementary School! Keep up the wonderful work.

Students from Mrs. Charest’s third grade and Mrs. Pullen’s fifth grade classrooms happily spent a recent Wednesday library class reading Black Bear Book Award books and turning in their exit slips at record speed!
