WES Builds a City

Third grade students from Williams Elementary School engaged in a “Build a City” activity. Learners were challenged to choose a building that would fill the city within the four zones. These four zones were multipurpose – housing, agricultural, business, and industrial. For example, if the student picked out a factory, that would be in the industrial zone. They then would have to explain if that business made goods or services for the city and why it belonged in that zone. This was a great activity for the students to see how a city functions and produces goods and services to stay balanced.

On top of that, Miss. Quirion’s class has been working hard on their Junior Achievement unit. This unit was focused on the difference between goods and services within a city. Students learned how to keep a city balanced and all the different components involved. Learners were able to build their own business to become an entrepreneur. There were different roles to fill like being a manager, marketer, chief, and accountant. Students also worked with the four different choices that we have with money. They had to decide to spend, save, donate, or earn money with different roles within the city. They joined together in the Save the City activity where they rolled dice to see what money choice they had to make and how it helped the city. #WeAreRSU18 #WESproud18
