World Read Aloud Day, Pop Up Book Fair, and Community Literacy Celebrations
Williams Elementary School held a successful winter Book Fair a few weeks ago. They are so thankful for their outstanding Book Fair volunteers: Jim Belanger and Stacia Lozier Wood. The Book Fair would not be possible without these amazing people and WES is forever grateful for the generosity of their time when working the fair. During the winter Book Fair, there were daily book giveaways! Each day, names of students were drawn and those students were invited to the Book Fair to shop for a book of their choice. The books were purchased using Scholastic Dollars which are earned from the Book Fair profits. Scholastic “All for Books” donation boxes were placed in the Oakland community at Oakland House of Pizza, Korner Store, and Buddies Grocery. The giveaway program was a result of the amazing community support through donations as the school was able to purchase more books for students and held more drawings than they had originally planned. Teachers were also able to add new books to their classroom libraries by shopping with their Scholastic Dollars.
The school has been looking forward to having a Pop Up Book Fair, a three day event, taking place during the week of World Read Aloud Day and their community literacy event – and the time has come! They geared up for an exciting World Read Aloud Day with their second Scholastic Book Fair, a Reading Challenge between February 5 and the 15th, Community Read Event, and fun drawings for books and cool prizes! #WeAreRSU18 #WESproud18
