WES/ATW Field Day

The weather could not have been more beautiful Tuesday, June 12th, which allowed for a great morning of outdoor fun and games at the annual WES/Atwood Field day.

“Field day is one of my favorite events of the year,” said WES Principal Melanie Smith. “I enjoyed watching our students cheer on their classmates during the relay events and tug of war competitions!  I had a blast racing Giuliana Roderick in the sack race and competing with some of Ms. Hilton’s students in the Fish Ladder Relay Race.”

A favorite tradition for this field day is the Pot of Gold where students bring in spare change and dash forward when their class is called to add their donations to the pot. This year’s Pot of Gold collected $826.50 for the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter!

Darling’s Ice Cream Truck for a cause was on campus and donated all the proceeds of the day to Karsyn Mann and her family to help with Karsyn’s fight against cancer.

The field day was organized and MC’d by gym teacher Scott Colby for the final time this year. As usual, the MMS 8th graders helped run the activities. As a thank you for their time and hard work, Mr. Colby treated them all to ice cream at the end of the morning.

“Our field day concluded with a WES staff tug of war competition and students enjoyed watching our staff battle it out so much that they requested a rematch,” said Mrs. Smith. “Brandi Forney stated, “Field Day was Doggone Deputy Good!”(one of Mr. Colby’s favorite expressions).  As you can see it is a day that is enjoyed by ALL.”
