Amazing acts of kindness spread throughout Williams Elementary School prior to the start of school.
Samantha Veilleux, 4th-grade teacher at Williams, shared an idea she saw another educator post on social media with the Williams staff. Veilleux posted the following on her Facebook page, “Scholastic has books every month that are $1. How awesome would it be for each of our students to be able to bring home a new book each month during the school year from September to May? If $1 books were selected, it would only cost $9 per child. Would anyone be interested in sponsoring a child in my class?”
All teachers at Williams, copied and posted the message. As a result of these posts, Williams has received over 200 sponsors, from friends and family members of our teachers, who donated $9.00 to sponsor a student with a book a month from Scholastic for the entire school year. Every student at Williams will receive 9 books this year! Thanks to our sponsors, 1,881 books will be purchased for our students!
Our staff was astonished by the generosity of our community. Students wrote thank you letters to sponsors for giving them the opportunity to take home and read nine new books this year. We greatly appreciate all of the support we received for our readers. The generous support from our sponsors will help our readers grow and will engage them in a variety of genres this year.
