Painting with Purpose

Third-grade students recently completed their Georgia O’Keeffe–inspired paintings. Throughout the process, students focused on creating value and layers using watercolor washes to build rich color. A key goal of the project was identifying and creating strong compositions, allowing students to thoughtfully arrange their designs while experimenting with technique and creativity.

Fourth-grade students wrapped up their George Seurat–inspired dot paintings with impressive results. The focus of this project was on creating artwork using intentional dots while carefully mixing and applying color. Students worked to include a variety of color and value while also showing a sense of space in their paintings, bringing their pointillism projects to life.

Fifth-grade students at WES did a wonderful job designing and creating detailed mandalas. Students began by designing a motif and using image transfer techniques to copy their design. They then developed a thoughtful color scheme using analogous or complementary colors, along with black and white, to complete their artwork. The finished pieces reflect creativity, focus, and strong design skills. #WeAreRSU18 #WESproud18
